Life Scripts

What does freedom mean to me?

Is the way I am living my life congruent to what I really want?

There comes a time in one’s life where we are to ask ourselves such important questions.

What I have come to see is that most people live life according to a script/ blueprint – one which they never really chose. Somewhere along the line, it chose them.

At some point, a company; a government; a person – an entity – will be more than happy to decide that for you.

In school, we are taught how to be taught. We learn how to learn better.

In high school, good grades grant us ‘the privilege’ of going into debt – which goes on till university/ college. All this in hopes of obtaining a piece of paper we call a degree. A piece of paper with the promise of job security, a steady, decent-paying job.

After that, you rent a place and fill it with stuff. If you weren’t able to attract a mate by now, surely you can now with your apartment full of stuff.

2-3 years later, you may get a promotion, have kids, upgrade to a house. You continue this cycle for the next 30 – 40 years, till you reach the promise land – retirement – when all hard work (surely) pays off.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with this script – unless you don’t want it.
